Reading this exciting, adventuresome book created flashbacks of the adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I was captivated while reading many of these hilarious, sad, and spellbinding true short stories which made up Daniel’s first 18 years of life. When I first picked up this book I only planned to read one story, but then couldn’t put it down as I cried hysterically, mourned for his mother, and was captivated at how this family of 12 survived. Starting in the proper East coast city of Dover, Delaware, then at age seven being thrust onto Fox Island, a small secluded island in southern Puget Sound, Daniel relays his humorously clumsy adventures in this wonderful autobiography. Although he wrote this book for his children and grandchildren, it is a roller coaster ride that you will enjoy and never want to leave.
