One of the biggest struggles James encounters is managing his finances. Having never been taught about budgeting or saving, he soon finds himself drowning in debt. As his situation worsens, he is forced to make difficult choices, learning the consequences of his actions along the way. This aspect of the story serves as a cautionary tale for young readers about the importance of financial literacy.

Another major obstacle James must overcome is finding a place to call home. Destitute and alone, he cannot rely on his family for support and stability. Desperate to find a roof over his head, he stumbles upon a rundown apartment building filled with eccentric neighbors. Here, he learns the value of community and the importance of forming genuine connections in an increasingly isolated world.

Throughout his journey, James encounters various love interests, friendships, and mentors. Each interaction shapes his perception of relationships and teaches him valuable lessons about trust, communication, and self-discovery. The development of these relationships is an integral part of James' growth and offers readers a chance to reflect on their own experiences.

In his quest for self-sufficiency, James also struggles with his mental well-being. The pressures of adulthood take a toll on his mental health, leading him down a path of anxiety and depression. Through this narrative, the story sheds light on the importance of seeking help and the resilience required to combat one's inner demons.

As the story progresses, James begins to find his footing. He learns from his mistakes and embraces opportunities for personal growth. The challenges he faced become stepping stones towards a brighter future. Through determination and perseverance, he discovers his true strength and learns to navigate life's unexpected twists and turns.

This coming-of-age tale captivates readers with its raw emotions and relatable struggles. It serves as a reminder that we are all flawed individuals trying to find our place in the world. By highlighting the obstacles James faces and his ultimate triumphs, readers are left feeling inspired and motivated to face their own journeys with newfound courage and resilience.

This is not just a story about one boy; it is a story about every person who has ever felt ill-prepared in their own journey through life. It reminds us that it is never too late to learn, to grow, and to find our own path. Whether we are at the start of our adventures or somewhere in the middle, we can all relate to James' story in some way.

So, join James on his tumultuous journey and discover the resilience within yourself. This compelling coming-of-age story will keep you hooked until the very last page, reminding you that we are all capable of overcoming life's obstacles and finding our place in the world.

Losing his twin was devastating for Quilly.

How would he continue through the next chapter of life when his mother and brother were gone forever?

Fortunately, Quilly had built up an instinct for survival through a neglected childhood. Steely determination helped him avoid most of the ridicules as he moved from temporary homes to places where prison life was the norm.

Being a skinny lad from Sunderland didn’t offer much help when it came to work and romance. Authority issues made work a battle zone. Sexual prowess was a myth, and solidarity was a necessity.

Could Quilly prove his worth and find a safe place to call a home? Could he overcome his internal struggles and find someone who could finally understand his insecurities? Or did his turbulent childhood leave too deep a scar to be happy?

Note: This book contains descriptions of a sexual nature. Teenage sexual exploration and explicit language.

Review:
Cain Quillman does it again in this second installment of his memoir series Quilly Life, taking the reader down the turbulent rabbit-hole of a young man's journey to find his place in the world.

Losing his twin Neil was the most difficult thing Cain had ever endured. A part of him was gone, and he now finds himself alone in a confusing world rife with new experiences.

Now in his late teens, Cain must learn to navigate the realities of his life. New living arrangements, new friends, new enemies, new job, and new women, we join him on his journey in all its awkward, brilliant glory. Can Cain manage to overcome the trials and tribulations of his past, and carve out the life for himself that he's always wanted? The life he deserves?

This book is an exceptional look into the life of a seemingly normal lad from Sunderland, who has time and time again been put into extraordinary circumstances. At it's core, Being Quilly is a brilliant coming of age story that plants the reader firmly in Cain's shoes, as we experience all the soaring highs and crushing lows of his early adult life. And isn't that what we want in a memoir? To be able to see the world through eyes that are so different from our own? Quillman accomplishes this beautifully through his comedic charm, shockingly funny sexual encounters, and just overall exceptional storytelling. I laughed, I cringed, I cried, and I felt every moment in this stunning true account of his life. It is truly a work of art to be able to tell his own story with such a clear voice that cuts through as something fresh and new in the memoir genre.

This book has me waiting anxiously for the release of book three, and I cannot recommend it enough. It has everything a great memoir should have, and then some. Pick up Being Quilly, and buckle up and enjoy the ride. - Meghan

Review:
This is the second part of Quillman's memoir, and follows his journey into adulthood. Still dealing with the issues of the past, the author tries to find his place in the world, recounting with brutal honesty, situations that will have you laughing out loud, stories that will make your hair curl. His writing is evocative, and as a reader, I felt every bump on his journey to find love and self-belief. It's one of the most brutally honest, captivating memoirs that I've read and I can't wait for the next part of Cain's story.
