Slim, a name he got from his facility with a slimjim car door opener, and it sticking due to his being a 7-footer (or near abouts) with a basketball player's lean physique. When loosing his track to play B-BALL by getting caught when he had to (as he routinely did) steal things for his family (as in his homeless mother and siblings) such as food, those around him went from rooting for him to taunts and throwing things at him. This made his leaving the mainstream crowd to work in the underworld of crime much easier.

When he joined Rāshid Rāggid Washington's gang he was the tallest (male) member by half a foot, so between this and his never having had much will to oppose what others wanted him to do, he became the strong-man of the group, doing most of the hard work that required brute strength, despite Washington being a 400 pounder, so having more actually brute force at his disposal, but not Slim's speed and freedom from command decisions.

After meeting someone from Earth 2 (a Shaolin Monk's daughter and dragon sorceress and Kung Fu mistress in her own right) he and the rest of the gang began traveling back and forth between world's in Earth 2 he has been a cutlass wielding pirate, a scimitar wielding desert scavenger, and filled in for Little John in Sherwood Forest and Nottingham; while when returning to The City of Mountains and Rivers in Each 1 (which itself is an urban fantasy and hard core urban school of hard lucks version of our world) he reverts back to using crowbars and slimjims as a trade, but more often than not the gang gets in gang wars to take their territory back from those who moved in on it, and occasionally they end up facing down someone with a quarterstaff, scimitar or cutlass.
