ASIAN DAZE: A BOOZERS TRIP THROUGH THE BARS AND BORDELLOS OF ASIA
from Randy Rodd, the author of BANGKOK DAZE - STORIES FROM THE WORLD’S SEXIEST CITY
FROM THE FORWARD
All I value fits in a backpack and a guitar case. I never accumulated many things except memories. I work hard, live frugally, finish a project and then hit the road for an adventure. My primary interests while traveling are to eat well, drink fully, love freely and play music.
For me, visiting Asia was a vibrant contrast to the bland white food, the quiet people and the haunting white roof of the winter sky pressing me down at home in America. Whether in the neon splashed streets of naughty nightlife Bangkok or the soft, humid cocktail embrace of a sun setting on a beach, I was a bemused and independent outsider, in a place but not constrained by belonging to the place.
Asia offers a rambling, curious experience seeker new tastes, new knowledge and the freedom from the familiar. I first travelled to Asia in 1988, returned in 1994 and lived there full time from 2005 to 2018. I visited Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam.
These boozy traveling tales are for readers who like stories about wine, women and song; they are not appropriate reading for children.
If you are an old Asia hand or an expat who shipwrecked yourself in Asia on purpose or someone interesting in traveling in Asia away from the tourist trail, this book may intrigue or frighten you. I don’t know whether to be proud or ashamed that all of these stories are true; I am mostly surprised that I survived all these various episodes.
