Majestic Tall Ship Sailing Into The Sunset All I Ask Is A Tall Ship

For centuries, tall ships have captured the imaginations of sailors and landlubbers alike. Symbolizing adventure, freedom, and the romance of the high seas, these magnificent vessels have played a significant role in maritime history. In this article, we will delve into the fascinating world of tall ships, exploring their rich history, stunning designs, and the thrill of sailing aboard them. Get ready to set sail on an enchanting journey!

The History and Evolution of Tall Ships

The concept of tall ships dates back to ancient times when civilizations like the Phoenicians and Greeks built sailing vessels with tall masts to navigate long distances. However, it was during the Age of Sail, spanning from the 16th to the 19th centuries, that tall ships truly flourished. This era saw the emergence of iconic ship types such as the Spanish galleon, the British frigate, and the majestic three-masted schooners. Explorers like Christopher Columbus and James Cook relied on these vessels to discover new lands and establish trade routes.

As maritime technology advanced, tall ships evolved to become more efficient and seaworthy. The development of stronger hulls, more sophisticated rigging systems, and the of steam power transformed the way sailors traversed the oceans. Despite these advancements, the allure and beauty of traditional sailing ships are still cherished today.

I want to sail my family of six around the world. Like Joshua Slocum a century before, I am a Sea Captain without a vessel.
Sailing is sometimes cold, wet and frightening. Can I design and build a vessel that is comfortable and likely to survive a hurricane or hitting an abandoned container, sail efficiently and cost only a quarter of the price of something similar?
This is the detailed story of my design choices and how I built and circumnavigated my vessel. For those interested it includes the technical detail along with the experiences of 50 years as a professional mariner.
It is for those who might wish to follow, or those who just love to dream.

This book covers the following subjects:

Information and generic advice on the design of hull, rig, accommodation, engine, and electrics.
Model tank testing, CAD, design formula and calculations.

Lifting moving and levelling.
